GERSTEL Solid Phase Micro Extraction
The GERSTEL Solid Phase Micro Extraction (SPME) option fully automates the microextraction process using the MultiPurposeSampler (MPS). Analytes can be enriched from liquid samples or headspace using minimal solvent.
All steps are executed automatically and efficiently through MAESTRO software. With low phase volume and short extraction times, the SPME option delivers fast, sensitive and reliable sample preparation.
The SPME-Arrow option with its robust construction enables to enlarge the phase volume and increase its sensitivity.

Techniques for rapid and solvent-poor enrichment of analytes
The MPS uses SPME and SPME Arrow tools for efficient sample extraction without a syringe. SPME applies an adsorbent coating on a fiber, while SPME Arrow uses a metal shaft with a larger adsorbent volume for higher sensitivity. Samples can be enriched in the tray or in a heated agitator for incubation.
During extraction, a needle or arrowhead pierces the vial septum to protect the adsorbent, after which it is exposed to capture analytes. SPME Arrow additionally uses a retractable protective tube. After enrichment, analytes are thermally desorbed in the inlet (or TDU for SPME). The adsorbent is then conditioned and ready for the next analysis.
