Hydrogen Leak Detector for Gas Chromatographs
Hydrogen is a very efficient carrier gas for gas chromatographs. It increases the analysis speed without losing chromatographic resolution, saves costs and has an unlimited supply. This makes it an ideal alternative to Helium as a GC carrier gas. However, this carrier gas does have one disadvantage as it is an explosive gas.
Constantly monitoring the Hydrogen concentration in the GC oven with a sensor ensures a safe use of Hydrogen in your laboratory. The Da Vinci LS Hydrogen Sensor is a dedicated Hydrogen sensor that is compatible with all GC brands.
Continuous Hydrogen leak monitoring in GC Oven
A broken GC column or a loose connection could leak Hydrogen, which might result in an explosion in the GC oven. The robustness of the GC limits the risk for the staff, but the laboratory will need to replace its GC. The Da Vinci LS Hydrogen Sensor provides a safe technique to detect a hydrogen leak in GC instruments.
The Sensor is installed inside of the GC oven for continuous monitoring of the H2 concentrations in the oven air. The LCD screen of the external controller displays the measured gas concentration. If the sensor detects a user defined hydrogen concentration, typically between 25% and 50% LEL (equal to 1%-2% by Vol. hydrogen), it will ensure the safety of the laboratory staff by several means.
The sensor controller will:
- Automatically switch the carrier gas to an inert gas (nitrogen);
- Send an automatic stop signal to the GC;
- Transmit an acoustic signal;
- Start flashing on the LCD screen.
When using the Da Vinci LS Hydrogen Sensor Software, this will also alert the lab staff by showing a red status on the dashboard and can be configured to send an email alert.
Versatile design
The versatile design of the controller box allows to combine up to four sensors in one controller. For example: you can control four sensors for four different GC’s with only one controller box; Or you can monitor your primary GC and Secondary Oven with the same controller. The Da Vinci LS Hydrogen Sensor is compatible with all GC brands.
By constantly monitoring the hydrogen concentrations inside of the GC oven and automatically switching to an inert gas when a predefined threshold is reached, the Da Vinci LS H2 Sensor ensures the safe use of hydrogen as a GC carrier gas.
