Reliable PFOS analysis in food
Accurate PFOS analysis in food samples is becoming increasingly important as PFAS regulations tighten worldwide. A common challenge is that naturally occurring compounds in food matrices, such as taurocholic acid derivatives found in products such as eggs, fish and meat, can generate the same LC-MS/MS signal as PFOS. This can lead to false positives and unreliable results if these interfering compounds are not effectively separated.
A new application note by YMC shows how the YMC Accura Triart C18 column addresses the challenge of reliable analysis of PFOS and interfering chemicals in food samples.
Bioinert column technology for PFOS analysis
Using an acetonitrile-based, methanol-free LC-MS/MS method, PFOS is clearly separated from matrix-derived interfering compounds, enabling reliable detection and quantification. The bioinert coated column hardware helps minimise unwanted interactions, while the column technology provides stable retention and sharp peak shapes across a broad range of PFAS compounds. The study demonstrates excellent recoveries and reproducible results in complex food matrices including meat, fish, vegetables and eggs.
The results highlight the suitability of the YMC Accura Triart C18 column for routine PFAS analysis at trace levels, delivering accurate quantification and reproducible results even in challenging samples and regulated laboratory environments.
